DESCRIPTION: APW - E Howard & Co, Boston, Series IV, N-S (just over 19S), heavy warranted 14K multicolor rose gold US Assay original true box-hinged HC now converted to OF, leaving mvt in sidewinder format, the internal bezel removed in favor of the new reflector ring, gold cuvette in addition to glazed observation cover over mvt, the back with rare but worn dramatic scene of Native American Indian about to stab the mountain lion that is attacking him, SW-SS, WE-SSD, lever escapement, 15J, GJS, gilt mvt, s#44317. Inside the back is a photograph of a young couple from the 1890's, judging by costume. Gross weight of assembled watch 91.1 dwt (141.7 g).
CONDITION: Mvt: GRO, fair mvt condition overall, looks bright but the plates have been polished and have a sheen of UFS in several directions; dial with small edge flake at 7, seconds-register re-affixed unevenly; hands excellent, seconds too small; case shows medium uneven wear, many MFS, sharp dings in the uneven back, the facial detail almost gone, all highlights smoothed with much reduction at the shoulder, as if the case had been polished repeatedly through its life, while the band detail remains sheltered and crisp, front liftspring broken or weak and not carrying through opening motion; bow tight but thinned sharply at center, crown shows light wear; good glass crystal.
